Gilles Thibault
born 1953
New Brunswick, Canada

Thibault began his artistic career creating photographs as a teenager. His photographs have been appreciated all over the world. More recently he has turned his attention to oil painting.

In his landscapes he enjoys exploring nature in both abstract and representational ways on the same canvas. At times he focuses on different zones, textures and patterns of the earth, utilizing linear forms that cascade from atmospheric to subterranean. He desires to convey an inner sense of being in nature's vast landscapes. In his abstractions he hopes to inspire deep and enlightening connections to nature. They reflect a universal desire for purity and the infinite. In his figures he aims to express emotion and, at the same time, emotionally transform the viewer.

Gilles has learned through admiration and influence rather than academia. He has recently been tutored in drawing and painting by Cynthia Packard, an accomplished artist from Provincetown, MA. His work has been exhibited in New York, Provincetown, Palm Springs and Miami Beach. He is compelled to explore and discover through the process of creating. He enjoys experiencing "the melancholy of solitary joy" while working. He has recently dedicated himself to painting in Provincetown, where he feels deeply connected to nature, to the horizon, and to Provincetown's renowned light.
